Flint Castle was the first one to be built by Edward I as he advanced into Wales in the 13th century. It was here that Richard II, returning from Ireland in 1399, was forced into submission by Henry Bolingbroke, later Henry IV - a scene depicted by Shakespeare in his play ‘Richard II’. The castle is open all year, and there is a picnic area and free car park.
Flint also has a leisure centre and golf club.
